President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, has
constituted the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal to handle
petitions arising from the Sept. 19 election in Edo State.
The tribunal’s secretary, Sunday Martins, Esq., disclosed this in a statement made available to Igbere TV, on Monday, in Abuja.
According to Martins, the tribunal has been mandated to hear and determine petitions that may arise from the election.
He
said the Chief Judge of the State, Justice Esther Amenaghawon Edigin
has graciously approved the use of High Court Complex (Election Petition
Court Hall), Sapele Road, Benin City for the Tribunal Exercise.
"The
Secretariat is now open", Martins said. "For further enquiries, please
contact the Secretary on mobile phone number: 07010058493", the
statement added.
Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State was
re-elected for a second term in office after defeating the All
Progressives Congress candidate, Osagie Ize-Iyamu and others in the
Sept. 19 election.
Even though the APC at the national level and
President Muhammadu Buhari had congratulated Obaseki on his victory, the
APC in Edo is warming up for court having rejected the election outcome.
