All 38 church members abducted in Kwara have regained ther freedom

The 38 members of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in Eruku community, Kwara State, who were abducted by armed bandits on Tuesday, November 18, have regained their freedom, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced on Sunday evening.

The President confirmed the development in an official statement, bringing relief to families and community members who had spent days in fear and uncertainty following the deadly church attack.

The violent incident occurred during a service when bandits stormed the church premises, unleashing terror on worshippers. Five people were killed in the assault, while 38 others were taken away into the surrounding bush by the attackers.

Security operatives, local vigilantes, and community volunteers had been involved in a tense search-and-rescue effort since the attack. Although details of the rescue operation remain scarce, the President’s announcement has provided the first authoritative confirmation that the abducted worshippers are now safe.

Tinubu condemned the attack and reiterated his administration’s commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of Nigerians, particularly in communities repeatedly targeted by violent criminal groups.

The Eruku community, still mourning the loss of the five worshippers killed during the assault, has welcomed the news of the survivors’ return with gratitude — though residents continue to call for stronger security interventions to prevent future tragedies.

The incident adds to the growing list of violent attacks on religious gatherings and rural communities across Nigeria, heightening concerns about worsening insecurity and the government’s capacity to respond.
