Nnamdi Kanu Reportedly Transferred to Sokoto Prison to Begin Life Sentence

The detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has reportedly been moved to a correctional facility in Sokoto State to begin serving his life sentence.

The development was disclosed by his former legal counsel, Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, who confirmed that Kanu was relocated from his previous detention location to the far-northern prison. Ejimakor did not provide detailed reasons for the transfer but noted that the move marks a significant shift in the handling of Kanu’s incarceration.

The transfer has sparked renewed discussion around the government’s treatment of the separatist leader, security considerations, and the political implications of relocating such a high-profile inmate to a maximum-security facility in the northern region.

Nnamdi Kanu has been a central figure in separatist agitations in the South-East, with his trial and detention continuing to draw national and international attention.
