Exclusive: Edo Assembly Summons Tuface Idibia’s Wife, Natasha Osawaru Over Alleged Misconduct

In what has rapidly evolved into one of the most talked-about political controversies in Edo State, the House of Assembly has officially summoned Hon. Natasha Osawaru Irobosa—popularly known as the wife of Nigerian music icon, Innocent “Tuface” Idibia—over allegations of serious misconduct said to be bringing the legislative arm into disrepute.

Hon. Osawaru, who currently represents the Egor Constituency in the Edo State House of Assembly, has been at the center of mounting criticism following a series of actions and public statements that have stirred outrage across traditional and social media spaces. What began as isolated online murmurs has now escalated into a full-blown institutional inquiry, compelling the Assembly to take decisive action.

During the plenary session held on Tuesday, Speaker Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku addressed the lawmakers with an unusually stern tone, confirming that Natasha Osawaru has been trending for days—but for all the wrong reasons. The Speaker noted that the Assembly could not overlook the ongoing media storm nor the allegations suggesting that one of its members may have engaged in conduct unbecoming of a legislator entrusted with public responsibility.

Agbebaku stated that the legislator’s recent behavior, widely circulated on various news platforms, was not only embarrassing to the Assembly but had raised critical concerns over decorum, ethics, and respect for parliamentary norms. According to him, the House cannot afford to allow any situation that undermines its integrity, particularly at a time when public trust in institutions is already fragile.

To address the matter, the Speaker issued a formal directive summoning Hon. Natasha to appear before the House Committee on Ethics and Privileges within one week. The committee, headed by senior lawmakers, is tasked with investigating complaints, examining conduct, and ensuring that all members uphold the standards expected of their office.

Hon. Natasha is expected to present her defense before the committee, respond to the allegations, and explain her actions that allegedly triggered the controversy. The Speaker made it clear that failure to satisfactorily address the concerns raised could result in disciplinary measures, which range from formal warnings to suspension or other sanctions as permitted by legislative rules.

“The House will not tolerate any form of misconduct capable of dragging its image in the mud,” Agbebaku emphasized, adding that every member—regardless of popularity or social standing—must abide by the rules governing the institution.

The committee has been given a two-week timeline to investigate the matter thoroughly and submit a detailed report to the full House. This report is expected to guide further legislative action, should the allegations be substantiated.

The development has generated intense reactions across Edo State and beyond, as Hon. Natasha Osawaru is not just a lawmaker but a public figure closely associated with one of Africa’s biggest entertainers. Some observers argue that the scrutiny may be harsher because of her celebrity ties, while others insist that public office demands higher levels of discipline, decorum, and responsibility—regardless of personal background.

As the countdown begins for her appearance before the committee, the political atmosphere in Edo remains charged. Supporters and critics alike are watching closely, eager to see how the legislative process unfolds and whether this event could signal a broader shift toward enforcing stricter ethical standards in the Assembly.

For now, the eyes of the state—and indeed the nation—remain fixed on the unfolding saga, waiting to see how Hon. Natasha Osawaru navigates what may be the most defining challenge of her political career.
