The Vickyheldan Empowerment Foundation has unveiled plans for the 2026 edition of the Her Health, Her Power Conference Africa, an annual platform focused on advancing women's health, wellbeing and leadership across the continent.
The conference is scheduled to take place on August 21, 2026, at the Shehu Musa Yar'Adua Centre in Abuja, bringing together healthcare professionals, policymakers, development partners, business leaders, advocates, academics, students and community stakeholders to discuss strategies for improving health outcomes for women and girls in Africa.
Organisers said this year's event will be held under the theme, "Leading With Wellness for a Sustainable Africa," highlighting the connection between women's wellbeing and the continent's long-term social and economic development.
Speaking during a press briefing in Abuja, Founder and Convener of the conference, Dr. Victory I. Njoku, said the initiative seeks to promote greater awareness, policy engagement and collaborative action on issues affecting women's health.
According to her, sustainable development across Africa cannot be achieved without prioritising the health and wellbeing of women, noting that challenges related to healthcare access, funding, policy implementation and awareness continue to affect millions of women across the continent.
She explained that the conference envisions a future where African women have equitable access to quality healthcare services, are empowered to make informed health decisions, and benefit from systems that protect their dignity, productivity and overall wellbeing.
The event will focus on several key objectives, including promoting conversations around health equity, expanding knowledge on critical health challenges facing women and girls, encouraging innovative solutions, and mobilising partnerships capable of delivering lasting impact.
Participants are also expected to engage in discussions aimed at reducing stigma surrounding sensitive health issues while advocating for policies that strengthen women's rights and access to healthcare services.
Organisers said the 2026 conference will place special emphasis on maternal and reproductive health, mental health and emotional wellbeing, preventive healthcare, healthy lifestyles, women's leadership, and economic empowerment. Efforts to improve healthcare access in rural and underserved communities through outreach initiatives will also form part of the agenda.
Activities planned for the event include keynote presentations, policy dialogues, panel discussions, advocacy workshops, networking sessions and wellness-focused engagement programmes designed to inspire action and collaboration among participants.
Among the keynote speakers expected at the conference are Ameenah Gurib-Fakim and Prof. Olufolake AbdulRazaq, alongside healthcare experts and development professionals from Africa, Europe and the United States.
Several stakeholders from the healthcare and development sectors attended the launch event, including representatives of advocacy organisations, health-focused initiatives and professional bodies committed to advancing women's wellbeing.
Organisers expressed confidence that the conference will strengthen partnerships, drive policy conversations and contribute to efforts aimed at improving healthcare outcomes for women while supporting broader sustainable development goals across Africa.
