Former Labour Party presidential candidate and one of Nigeria’s leading opposition figures, Peter Obi, has declared that the Federal Government is making every possible effort to prevent him from emerging as a candidate in the 2027 presidential election, insisting, however, that those efforts will ultimately fail.
Obi made the remarks while addressing students, staff, and members of the academic community during a visit to Madonna University in Okija, Anambra State, where he encouraged young Nigerians not to be discouraged by challenges or intimidation but to remain focused on their goals and aspirations.
His comments came amid growing political developments ahead of the 2027 general elections, including recent legal battles involving political parties and intense public discussions over the evolving political landscape. “Today, the Federal Government of Nigeria is doing everything possible to stop me from becoming a candidate in this 2027 election. I can tell you that for a fact,” he declared. “But they will not win.”
