Fresh concerns over the fragile security situation in Benue State have emerged following the killing of the Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in the state, Ardo Muhammad, who was ambushed and murdered by unknown gunmen shortly after participating in a peace meeting aimed at restoring calm in a crisis-ridden community.

According to him, the family was devastated by the loss, particularly because the deceased had participated in discussions specifically aimed at reducing violence and promoting understanding among communities.

"You know there was a crisis in Ayunne community where some people were killed some time ago," Gabriel explained.
"The DPO convened a peace meeting involving the Fulani herders and members of the community. I was informed that the discussions were fruitful, but sadly, after leaving the meeting, the MACBAN chairman was ambushed and killed together with another individual."
